From March 1-3, HPSD's administration and Board attended the Alberta Rural Education Symposium. This annual gathering brought together educational leaders to discuss key issues affecting rural schools and communities.
The symposium featured thought-provoking sessions on Education that Matters for the Students We Teach, Forging Career Pathways, Transformational Family and Community Engagement: A Means to Equitable Outcomes, and Generative AI and the Changing Landscape of Education. These topics explored how to enhance student success, strengthen school-community relationships, and navigate the evolving role of technology in education.
In addition to learning and collaboration, our Board had the opportunity to ask questions of the Honourable Demetrios Nicolaides, Minister of Education. Our Board served as strong advocates for northern and isolated rural communities, ensuring that the unique challenges faced by our division were heard at the provincial level.
Trustee Tammy Henkel addressed the Honourable Demetrios Nicolaides, Minister of Education, asking whether the funding allocated to the province recognizes the unique challenges faced in the North - where access to specialized services remains a significant hurdle.
