Welcome to English 30!
In this class we will be focusing on looking critically at a variety of texts! We will be looking into how using different literary theories increase our understanding of the text, the author, and even the time period. We will also be going over how to write and essay in order to better help you prepare for your Diploma Exam.
In this course we will be covering a variety of texts that have been grouped into five units. Some of these units, like writing, will take place throughout the term. These units will make up 70% of your grade, with your Diploma Exam making up the final 30%. Our five units are; Pride and Prejudice, Hamlet, Fiddle on the Roof, Independent Novel Study, and Short Stories (which will include poetry, writing, and Film Studies)
Each unit will be broken down as follows:
Unit (ie, Hamlet) = 20% of the in class mark
Each unit will be graded as follows:
Assignments = 40%
Learning Engagements = 10%
Presentations/Major Essay = 20%
Tests / Quiz = 30%
We will be having a busy semester and we have a lot to learn but hopefully we will all have fun while doing it. Most, if not all, of our work will be posted on Google Classroom. So if you miss a class please check there first for missing work. There is also a green folder by the door, any missing handouts can be found there with your name on it. You are responsible for your learning. If you miss a class you are responsible for completing any missed assignments and getting any missed notes from your classmates.
I hope we have a wonderful semester together.
